Hi everyone this is Diana Rush. I know I usually post articles about how to do your nails, but another hobby of mine is baking. I thought I would share this new-to-me recipe of Banana Cream Pie. Yummmmm...
Just in case you don't have a good pie crust recipe, I have included one below with instructions and pictures. This is my very easy go-to recipe and everyone tells me that I am the pie crust master! Can't go wrong, right? So here you go:
Never Fail, Best Ever Pie Crust
- 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons of flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/3 cup of canola oil (vegetable oil works too, but canola oil is the best)
- 2 tablespoons of ice cold water
- Put the flour in a medium-sized bowl, and add the salt.
3. Add the canola oil.
4. Stir this all together with a fork, but DON'T OVER STIR! Only do about 30 stirs, because when you over stir pie dough, you lose that flakiness. Also, it's okay if it's not completely stirred together, we'll fix it later. Here's what it should look like:
5. Now add in the water and stir it in with your fork. Once, again, don't over stir.
6. Gently handling your dough, shape it into a ball. You're gonna want your ball to look somewhat like an over sized marble.
7. Put your ball in between two pieces of wax paper so that you can roll it out. This is much easier than using flour and definitely not as frustrating. Roll your ball out with a rolling pin starting at the middle of the ball and working your way out and around.
8. Slowly peel of the top layer of wax paper.
9. Put the dough on top of the pie plate and peel off the other layer of wax paper. It's okay if the dough rips...it's an easy repair. :)
10. Press the dough into the pie plate and make the rim as even as you can make it, rounding off the edges like this:
11. Pinch the edge of the dough to make a fluted edge, like this:
12. If you need to bake the pie before you fill it, like you need to in this recipe, then you're gonna want to poke little holes in the dough so that it won't get all puffy.
13. Now put your newly formed crust into the oven and bake for about 5 minutes, or until golden brown. There you go! You just made an awesome crust for an awesome banana cream pie.
Banana Cream Pie
- 1/3 cup of flour
- 2/3 cup of sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 teaspoon of butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 2 bananas, sliced
- 1 baked pie crust ;)
- 4 ounces of whipping cream
- 1/4 cup sugar
1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the flour, sugar, yolks, and milk.
2.Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture starts to boil.
3. Once it starts to boil, keep it boiling for one minute.
4. After your minute is up, remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Mix it all together.
5. Place half of the sliced bananas over the bottom of your special pie crust.
6. Pour half of the filling over the bananas.
7. Repeat layers.
8. Once you have done all this, just chill your pie in the refrigerator for a while.
Now whip up the cream with the rest of your sugar, top the pie when you're ready, and stuff your face with banana cream pie! :)
Enjoy, and share with friends!
