Most people love an underdog story, business, who pursues a
last chance, long shot idea to find MLB players in rural India. And Million-Dollar Arm
is no exception. The story starts with
JB, a sports agent in the failing. JB goes to India and conducts numerous tryouts
with thousands of young men.
Eventually, he finds two boys, Rinku and Dinesh, and brings them back
with him to America for a shot at fame and a chance to make their families
proud. The boys struggle with adjusting to the American language and culture,
as well as to baseball. JB pushes the boys to make their debut in front of
multiple talent scouts after only nine months.
They fail miserably under the pressure. However, thanks to the help of
his female neighbor, who befriends and understands Rinku and Dinesh, JB comes
to the realization that he has been selfish and unsupportive of the two young
boys. But when JB takes the job of helping the boys seriously and gives them
support, they get a second chance at MLB. Meanwhile, JB learns that life is not
about making money, but about caring for the people in his life.
My opinion of this movie was that it was decent. Although the film
was not on my top ten movies of all time, it was a cool movie. I didn’t really like
that it had crass humor where it wasn’t needed. It has several mentions of beer
and sex, which was very disappointing for a PG-rated movie. The overall story
was decent enough that I enjoyed certain scenes of the movie.
I’m not sure if I would recommend this movie to any of my
friends. I’m my opinion this movie's flow and production were pretty awful, and
I wouldn’t watch it more than one time. It hardly had any funny parts and when
it did it was some inappropriate joke. But if you like slow moving
inspirational sports movies, this movie would most likely sit well with you.
