For today's Tuesday Treat, I will show you a traditional Puerto Rican dish and I will give you the recipe below so that you can try it too!

Today I was looking around for a Puerto Rican dish to cook for lunch and I found a recipe online for red beans and rice. It was very good and quite easy.  The first thing to do is to put one tbsp. of oil, 1/2 cup of diced green or red pepper, and 1/2 cup of onion into your frying pan.  You might have to add some water to aid the vegetables so that they don't burn.  Then add 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tsp. cumin, chorizo sausage (optional), and 1/2 cup ham (optional).  Saute until the vegetables are tender.  Then you will add 19 oz. of kidney beans, 8 oz. tomato sauce, and 1 tsp Tabasco sauce.

Simmer like the picture above for 5 mins. and then add 2 cups of white rice, 1/2 tsp of salt, and 4 cups of water.

Bring to a boil. Once it reaches boiling point, turn down the heat and let it cook for about 20 mins. with the lid on or until the rice is soft and cooked. Then uncover and enjoy!

This recipe was from Food.com.
